San Francisco Children's Zoo, California
The Chlidrens section of the San Francisco Zoo is a park unto itself, featuring exhibits and attractions perfect for the little ones. With activities to stimulate the mind as well as entertain this is a great choice for a bus charter school day or field trip.
There are plenty of opportunities for close up encounters with rare and exotic species as well as the every day animals that are part of our daily lives. Children and parents get a hands on experience with some of the most amazing creatures in the world. The insect zoo is a favorite to most children and even adults, with more than 30 species of bugs that creep, crawl and fly. There are huge tarantula spiders, giant African millipedes, scorpions all housed safely behind glass. But on the weekends the bugs come out as the staff gives demonstrations on insect behavior and feeding.
The Family Farm is a petting zoo that emphasizes contact with the animals for a true interactive experience. There are more than your average barnyard animals, the Family Farm is home to rare and endangered breeds of horses, sheep and steers. Children and parents are encouraged to pet, feed and join in the care of the animals; you may even be asked to help gather eggs.
The San Francisco Childrens Zoo offers free admission to various groups from the San Francisco area including schools, youth groups and non-profit organizations. Non-resident groups receive discounted rates depending on age. Call their Guest Services representatives at (415) 753-7057 for more details.
