Yankee Stadium was built in the early 1920's and was opened on April 18, 1923 with a game against who else but the Boston Red Sox. Ofcourse the Yankees won with Babe Ruth hitting a fourth inning Home Run. It was the Babe that drew fans of all ages to newly built stadium, thus the stadium was called the "House that Ruth Built".
There weren't many major renovations, except for the addition of lights for night games until 1976 when the ball park received a major facelift. The new ballpark was a mix of the old and new, keeping the classic lines of the old park while adding elevators and more seating. Yankee stadium has been the home to over 33 World Series, with the Yankees winning 26 of them , its no wonder they also call it "The Home of Champions".
You'll have to get there soon though because construction will be starting on a brand new Yankee Stadium in a lot across from the present ballpark, slated to open in 2009 the new park will rival the newest ballparks built around the country. So get there real soon! And don't forget to get that group there safely and comfortably in a charter bus!
