Ellis Island, NYC Landmark
A sight seeing must when visitng NYC by Bus Charter is Ellis Island. Just a short ferry ride away from Downtown Manhattan, Ellis Island is located in New York Harbor.
Between 1892 and 1956 over 17 million immigrants passed through the Island on thier way to citizenship of the United States.
The Ellis Island Museum is housed in the same three Story building in which the millions passed and contains exhibits dedicated to those immigrants. The Wall of Honor a permanant exhibit, contains the names of over 600,00 of the people that came through the Island. The American Family Immigration History Center contains the ships records for the 17 million people that passed through its doors between 1892 to 1924. This facility provides visitors the opportunity to search records for family members.
Another short ferry ride away is the Statue of Liberty. Th famous landmark is opened to the public, but access is restricted for security reasons.
The ferry to Ellis Island is available 7 days a week, from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Its a great opportunity to get off that Charter Bus and see a great and important piece of our nations history.
